Description: Thirty-three flowers and one bud slightly bunched on the upper third of a branched, 51.5-cm upright inflorescence borne basally on the lead growth of a five growth plant plus emerging new growth grown in a terrestrial mix in an 20.0-cm plastic bulb pan; growths spherical, slightly squat, ribbed, pumpkin like; leaves elliptic, acute, rounded, mottled grey-green and dark green, same on reverse; inflorescence four segmented, branched racemiform, 51.5 cm long with a 0.8 cm basal diameter; sepal and petals spatulate, yellow-green, lateral sepals held horizontal, petals porrect; lip cream, side lobes yellow-cream veined rose, midlobe broadly bi-lobed, cream veined and brushed rose, margin picotee dark rose, nectary tubular, bilobed distally, yellow-green, green-yellow distally; column yellow-green, anther cap yellow-cream; substance very firm; texture satiny; ovary green; country of origin Madagascar; SITF has confirmed as Oeceoclades splendida (Nov 2021); the species is very similar to O. humbertii, but O. humbertii has smaller flowers and four lanceolate leaves on the terminal pseudobulb and therefore is probably deciduous, where as O. splendida has mostly only one (sometimes two) oval, flat leaves which persist for a number of seasons; this plant shows only one leaf per pseudobulb and the leaves fit the description and photos almost exactly; size of the flower segments are in range for O. splendida; midlobe, if flattened, is a match to the line drawing in the original description.
